My CoDrone EDU controller screen is blank, what should I do?
Last updated: June 17, 2025

If your CoDrone EDU controller screen is blank, unresponsive, or only showing a blue power light, there are a few different reasons this may be happening, depending on the symptoms.
Scenario 1: The Screen Is Blank, But the Controller Still Responds
If your controller is connected and functional but the screen goes blank during flight or coding, try the following steps to refresh it:
- Update your drone and controller firmware
This is a known issue that we were seeing in older controller firmware. Please update your controller (and drone) firmware to the latest versions. You can locate our Online Firmware Updater Here
- Press the Power Button Once
Pressing the power button will refresh the screen without turning off the controller. It also toggles between flight states (autonomous vs. manual), so be sure to switch back to the appropriate mode for your current activity.
- Check the USB Power Source
Make sure your laptop or USB hub provides at least 5V / 0.5A of power. If your laptop battery is running low, it may also affect the controller’s power if it’s connected via USB.
- Check Your Batteries
If you're using AA batteries, low power can cause the screen to shut off. Replace with fresh batteries and try again.
Scenario 2: The Screen Is Blank, the Power Button Is Blue, and the Controller Is Unresponsive
This is a known hardware issue that occurred in early batches of the CoDrone EDU controller. It often happens when:
- The controller is plugged into a computer while AA batteries are inserted, and
- The controller is then powered off in that state.
Unfortunately, once this issue occurs, it cannot be resolved. The controller is considered “bricked” and will no longer function. If your controller is showing these symptoms, please contact us at support@robolink.com.
Include a photo of the controller displaying the blank screen and blue power button, along with a brief note confirming that it matches the issue described above. We’ll be happy to replace affected controllers for you pending confirmation.
In newer batches (as of October 2022), this issue has been resolved. Look for the part circled in red in the image below. If you see this component, you have the updated version that is not affected by the bricking issue.
If you're unsure which case applies or need additional help, please don't hesitate to contact us at support@robolink.com.
