Is CoDrone EDU compliant with Section 889?

Updated by Leila Firestone

Yes, both the standard CoDrone EDU and the CoDrone EDU (JROTC edition) are fully compliant with Section 889 requirements.

What is Section 889?

Section 889 is a provision of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) that restricts the use of certain telecommunications and video surveillance equipment from a list of specific manufacturers, due to national security concerns. The rule prohibits U.S. federal agencies and their contractors from using any equipment, systems, or components produced by the following companies or their affiliates:

  • Huawei Technologies Company
  • ZTE Corporation
  • Hytera Communications Corporation
  • Hangzhou Hikvision Digital Technology Company
  • Dahua Technology Company

This restriction applies to any technology used in communication or surveillance, and extends to components embedded within larger systems. You can read more about Section 889 on the official U.S. Government website.

How are we compliant?

To meet Section 889’s representation requirements, Robolink has verified and documented the manufacturer and chip information for all communications and sensing components on:

  • CoDrone EDU
  • CoDrone EDU (JROTC Edition)

None of the components used in these products are sourced from companies restricted under Section 889.
