Is CoDrone EDU FAA compliant under Part 107?

Drone laws and regulations can be confusing, especially when it comes to educational use. This article will help clarify how CoDrone EDU fits into current FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) rules for drone operation in the United States. If you are flying outside the U.S., please refer to your local aviation authority’s guidelines.

According to FAA guidelines, all drones under 55 lbs must be registered either:

  • Under Part 107 (commercial use), or
  • Under the Exception for Recreational Flyers (non-commercial use)

However, drones that weigh less than 0.55 lbs (250 grams) are exempt from registration if flown solely for recreational or educational purposes. CoDrone EDU weighs less than 250 grams and is intended for indoor classroom and learning environments. Therefore:

  • CoDrone EDU does not require FAA registration
  • You do not need a Remote Pilot Certificate (Part 107 license)
  • It qualifies under the Exception for Recreational Flyers when used for educational purposes

Indoor Use ONLY

CoDrone EDU is designed for indoor use only, where FAA airspace rules do not apply. Indoor flight avoids airspace restrictions and safety risks, making it ideal for classroom activities and learning environments.
